Is it so bad that an American President doesn't know what makes one an American? Would it be horrible to suggest that he really wishes his statements were true, perhaps because he is himself not an American?
To say that being American is not a matter of blood or birth is truly an ignorant thing to say. It is true that being an American is so much more than blood and birth, at it's very heart that's exactly what it is. If one of your parents is an American citizen, then you are born an American citizen. You are born free, endowed with inalienable rights. What President Obama could have said, was that being American was not just about blood and birth, but he didn't. He said it wasn't a matter of blood and birth. He denegrated the two ways that one is considered as an American. He traded substance for symbolism.
Our country is exceptional, the Founding Fathers framed our Country in such a way that it means something to be an American. Those born here are not like those born in China, Cuba or elsewhere. An American citizen has freedom, he has rights. It IS something special to be a citizen of the United States. We are citizens by blood and birth. We are citizens of the Greatest Nation in the World.
And we are being led by the most openly anti-American, anti-freedom President we have ever had the misfortune to have elected. Don't get me wrong, I believe that God is in control. And whether we have who we have as leaders because we have turned from Him as a nation, or because He is testing us as Christians, we have a responsibility to do what we must as a free people to keep this country free for our children and our children's children.
